If you’ve perused around your local ULTA or visited PUR’s Instagram account, you might’ve seen the new Out of the Blue Collection featuring innovative, light up components and a unique ingredient twist that’s perfect for tech and makeup lovers alike. It’s no secret that living in a digital age filled with tech devices, like smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions has drastically changed our everyday lives. But, how does this influx of blue light exposure impact our complexion?
Blue light is part of the visible light spectrum and studies have shown that it can have damaging effects on the skin. As it penetrates deep into the skin, high energy visible blue light can cause oxidative stress, which could lead to visible signs of aging.
We took to Tisha Thompson, PUR’s Vice President of Marketing and Innovation, to get a behind the scenes look at building the Out of the Blue Collection. From highly pigmented complexion products, nourishing lip enhancers, eye-catching eyeshadows and a gorgeous mascara, this one-of-a-kind collection was formulated with blue light defense for a healthier-looking complexion.
Q: How did this collection come
about? Were you inspired by any new research in particular or trends in the
skincare industry? What gave you the AH-HA moment to create Out of the Blue?
A: As a skincare-focused cosmetics brand, we are always looking for ways to create beauty products that not only help cover skin imperfections, but also help correct its overall appearance. With emerging tech usage trends and an ear to the skincare industry, we knew there was a need to build a collection catered towards blue light defense. We’ve seen it done in skincare products, but never in color, so this was our opportunity to do so.
Q: What does Out of the Blue mean?
Tisha: With this collection, we wanted PUR Beauties to breathe easy knowing that this collection is formulated to help them enjoy their lifestyle (and appearance) with skincare-infused products. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your lifestyle to achieve overall skin health, so Out of the Blue simply means keeping skin protected from the damaging effects of high energy visible blue light, while enjoying the PUR formulas you know and love.
Q: What inspired the packaging?
Tisha: The packaging found in this Out of the Blue Collection was the most exciting part for me during the product development phase. I had a really cool idea to add vanity lights to the components for on-the-go makeup application. After months of working with suppliers and our internal team, we created a super luxurious range of components that make it easy—and fun—to touch up your makeup wherever you are. From the lip products to our cult-favorite Fully Charged Mascara and fold out vanity eyeshadow palette, this added feature makes these products a must-have in your collection.
Q: What’s your favorite product in the collection?
A: The Out of the Blue Light Up Vanity Eyeshadow Palette is my favorite because it has the perfect mix of matte and shimmer eyeshadow shades. It’s versatile enough to transition your look from

of being on the most?
A: As a working mom that’s constantly on-the-go, I am guilty of being on my iPhone all the time. From emails, calls, social media and virtual meetings, it can be a lot. I make sure to incorporate this Out of the Blue collection into my daily routine so that I don’t have to worry about the visible signs of aging induced by high energy visible blue light.
